“Whirlybirds” – was inspired by a YouTube video of Adam Rose flying a DJI Phantom 4 drone around Vancouver, the video is spactacular, captured my attention, and I went out and got one.
This is one of my drones, a DJI Phantom 3 on one of it’s first flights. The sky was so clean and blue that I can chroma key it making the background transparent for superimposing onto any image. It flies flawlesly with extreme precision like something you would expect from precision machinery or a video game.
The secret to flying a drone of this calibre is not watching it from the ground as you are flying it, but watching it through the visual interface as you would if you were sitting in the cockpit and actually flying it. Its hard to grasp the concept and a shocking transition similar to riding a bicycle but when you fly your drone first person, especially when you have $2000 to lose, but once you do.. there is no turning back. The term “The next best thing to being there” takes on a whole new meaning.
I have some camera footage of these flights I’ll post on YouTube when I get a chance that’ll make it easier to understand what I am talking about.
